Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 KJV
I have read that there is an emotional weight that accompanies the expectations of others. When desperate people look to you for help and you know that if you cannot help them, no one else can, then responsibility becomes a burden. When we respond to a person, the Word denotes a favorable reciprocation. The second “stem” found in responsibility, “ability,” speaks to the capacity we have as bearers of others. So to be responsible is to possess the ability to respond favorably to those who expect us to be equipped for this task. It is a fine line to walk, for one easily could get weighted down with the expectations of others. One must needs make sure that those expectations are according to an accurate depiction of you and your ability. This will ensure that what is expected of you is within your realm of possibility. Unrealistic expectations have ruined relationships, marriages, and friendships. The only thing you owe anyone is an authentic presentation of who God has created you to be.
