And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.  Matthew 17:20 KJV

The level of trust and faith that we believe God with will be in direct proportion to the extent in which we know God. The more we learn about Him and His ways, the more we trust and have faith in Him.  We enter into relationship with God, and as we get to know God, the more readily we will become to turn our lives and our wills over to the care of God.  So seeing that the ways of God and God Himself are past finding out, then it follows that the potential amount of faith knows no bounds.  The human experience is so vast, so broad, that it calls for a trust and faith in the ONE who knows the end from the beginning.  The variableness of life begs for a faith in the Great Constant.  Understanding that what we believe – and that alone is ultimately what governs our actions – it is obviously why the Lord calls for faith.  It – faith that is – is organic!  It is alive, therefore, it can grow.  But, it will only do so if our understanding of God increases.  How does one increase in the knowledge of God?  We do so in theory, by the study of His Word.  We do so in practice by going through life determined to see God where He chooses to reveal Himself.  This heart-set can only serve to be a great benefit.  All the while the Lord is “building us up to a most holy faith.”  So set your mind on the things above, namely the Lord God Himself.  As your understanding grows so too will your faith grow, and with the “faith of a mustard seed . . . .”
