Guidelines for Hobe Online Students

Attendance

Student work is the indicator of attendance in an on-line class, so students who do not turn in work for the week are considered absent for the week. Any student who has not submitted work within a two week period will be considered withdrawn from the class. Students who have not turned in work for 3 non-consecutive weeks (21 days), will also be considered withdrawn from the class since they have been absent 30% of the class time. Any extenuating circumstances need to be discussed with the teacher before the extended period is evidenced.

Assignments

  1. Students need to log in as soon as possible when the course begins. This will let the teacher know the student has access to the course and will give time to correct any technical problems that may be present. Waiting until the end of the week will put the student in jeopardy of getting all the required work completed in a timely manner.
  2. While the work can be turned in any time during the week, the deadline for student work is on Monday at 11:55 PM Eastern Standard Time. For any work not turned in on time, arrangements will need to be made with the teacher to see if e-mail can be used to submit the work. Late work will receive a grade deduction, and the later the work, the more the grade deduction. Check with your teachers to see what policies are in place for their particular classes.
  3. Forum posts are to be written during the week they are due, and the first responses should be made early in the week so other students will have a chance to respond to them. Remember that both the initial comment and the student response are to be a minimum of 50-75 words in length.
  4. Student assignments are to be written in Word or in rich text format (rtf).

 Final Tests

Final exams will be timed and once the exam is opened it must be completed. Most exams will have 100 questions, so at least an hour or more should be allowed to take the exam. It would be best to take the exam before the last hour of the week in case there are technical difficulties or other problems that may arise.

Grade Point Average

Students are expected to maintain a 2.0 (C) or higher grade point average. This is especially true in the area of the major. No grade lower than a C will be counted toward the major area of concentration of the degree. Also, students with a GPA lower than 2.0 will not be able to receive financial aid.

Final Grades

All work is due by the last official day of class, on Monday evening. Final grades are due in the registrar’s office within one week of the final day of class.

Honors

Students who receive high grades may be eligible for honors. However, there are two components for honors: first, a grade point average of 3.65 or higher; and second, completing five semesters as a full-time student. Both criteria are used to determine honor status.
